Framing Instructions
Framing Your Art (Giclée Prints)
Our Giclée fine-art prints are made to museum-quality archival standards on quality photo paper.
- Be very careful when removing the print from the shipping tube and sleeve so you do not crease or fold the print.
- Wear soft cotton gloves when handling the print as fingerprints may leave marks on the print, especially in darker and black areas.
- The print size is 22”x 28” (it is printed on 24” x 30” paper with a 1” white border).
- Select a frame to match your décor. Antique Gold frames look amazing with these art pieces. For wooden frames, Roma Italian and Larson Juhl, while not inexpensive, are very beautiful and look great with nature prints. Some suggested frames are listed at the bottom of this page.
- Carefully trim print to black edge before framing (discard the outer 1” white border).
- These prints look great just placed into a nice frame without any matte around them. The black border on the print serves to add a matte effect.
- Dry mount the print on an acid-free art board.
- It is recommended that spacers be used.
- It is recommended that you use museum-quality archival glass, even though it is quite expensive. It can go by different names at different framing shops, but they will know what this means. Essentially, if you ask them for their most expensive glass option, that should be the one. Using this glass makes a noticeable difference and the framer can show you the difference while you are in the shop. Using museum-quality glass also enhances the vibrance and fidelity of the print, reduces reflections and glare, adds UV protection, and brings the right quality and presentation to the fine-art piece. Note: The use of acrylic glass (i.e., plastic) is not recommended.
- The framer should add hangers—we recommend using hooks on each side instead of wire, but your framer will provide the best guidance.
- Hobby Lobby can do the framing for you very cost effectively if you want. Even if you purchased the frame from another store (e.g., Etsy, Michaels, or Amazon), you can still take it in to Hobby Lobby for the framing and assembly.
- For best print life longevity, do not hang the print where it receives direct sunlight. Properly framed and displayed, the print should retain its appearance and vibrance for many years.
- Accent lighting can help enhance the vibrancy of the print (e.g., overhead halogen lighting).
- Enjoy your fine-art nature print for many years!
Framing Your Art (Lumachrome HD Acrylic)
Please follow the directions you receive with your print. All LUMACHROME HD Acrylic prints are made on a custom basis, and we will provide specific instructions to you. Generally, these prints are handled similarly to the Brilliant Aluminum prints. However, the acrylic surface is subject to scratching easier than aluminum, and if damaged, it cannot be repaired.
Framing Your Art (Brilliant Aluminum)
Framing of aluminum prints is similar to fine-art paper prints, except the surface is aluminum with a gloss coating on top.
- Be very careful when removing the print from any packing materials so you do not scratch or dent the aluminum print.
- While not required, it is best to wear soft cotton gloves when handling the print to avoid any damage to the smooth aluminum surface.
- The print size is 22”x 28” (the print is to edge-to-edge on the aluminum).
- Select a frame to match your décor. Antique Gold frames look amazing with these art pieces. For wooden frames, Roma Italian and Larson Juhl, while not inexpensive, are very beautiful and look great with nature prints. Some suggested frames are listed at the bottom of this page. Note: Aluminum prints can also be hung borderless (minimalistic), with no frame at all.
- The aluminum print can be mounted into a frame without any matte around them. The black border on the print serves to add a matte effect.
- You do not need any glass covering the aluminum. The brilliant aluminum surface is vibrant and pretty hardy, as long as you don’t directly scratch or ding it.
- Spacers are likely required to mount it properly in most frames (the framer will advise).
Aluminum surface is very durable, but prolonged direct sunlight can still dull the colors.
- Accent lighting can help enhance the vibrancy of the print (e.g., overhead halogen lighting).
- Enjoy your fine-art nature print for many years!
